The island complex of Oinousses is comprised of nine small islands and it is located East of Chios. The biggest one is Oinoussa and it is the only one that is inhabited. The coastline of the islands hides many sheltered bays, small capes, pristine beaches with crystal clear waters and a magnificent seabed worth exploring. The main town of Oinoussa is called Egnousa and it is built on a steep hill. Here you will see tall, traditional and luxurious houses and narrow streets. The mansions are reminiscent of the great maritime tradition of the island.
On the island there are many churches and chapels that reveal the strong Christian faith of the locals. The Church of St. Nicholas is located in the center of Egnousa while the Monastery of the Annunciation is the “jewel” of the island. There are approximately one thousand residents on Oinoussa and they still maintain the traditions of the island, such as their traditional fairs.
