This is definitely paradise on earth. The 4.500-5000 palm trees make Vai the largest palm grove in Europe. These palms are endemic, but according to descriptions palm trees have existed on Crete since antiquity and Vai fulfilled all conditions to become a forest. The beach is sandy and organized while in the 70s it was a hippies resort and in the 80s it was declared a protected area.
