The monastery of St. Anthony was built in the 16th century and it is located on the top of Kefalos Hill, a few kilometers east of Marpissa. The hill is an inactive volcano and the crater is beneath the altar of the church. The monastery is an impressive building with two domes, an ornate entrance and luxurious interior. On the hill you can also see the ruins of a Venetian castle which was built in the 15th century. You can go to the top of the hill either on foot via an old path or by car via a dirt road.
