In 1951 Captain Antonis Dakoronias decided to preserve the maritime history of the island and thus founded the Naval Museum of Oia. It is currently housed in a beautiful mansion of the 19th century which was offered to the island by Dina Manolessou-Mpirmpili.

The collection of the museum includes all kinds of exhibits related to the history of shipping on the island, especially during the 19th century. Here you will see figureheads, anchors, naval chests, sextants, marine equipment, models of older and newer ships which belonged to Santorini captains, watercolor paintings, rare documents and books, charters, marriage contracts and wills.
