In order to get to the monastery, you will need to climb up ninety steps. They say that one of the steps is golden (believers will manage to see which one is the golden one) and that many years ago nuns buried some relics under the stairs. The nunnery is dedicated to Virgin Mary and was named Chrissoskalitissa, meaning The Golden Stairs. The monastery is built on a cliff overlooking the sea. It is on the way to Elafonisos, 76 km. west of Chania.
