The Holy Monastery of Timios Prodromos (Honorable Forerunner) in Anatoli Agia’s in the prefecture of Larissa dominates the beautiful mountain of Kissavos and stands out for the unique event in Orthodoxy, hosting nuns from 12 different countries and from all points of the horizon.

Specifically, the 20 nuns of the Holy Monastery come from the USA, Australia, Finland, England, Germany, Lebanon, Estonia, Japan, Russia, Cyprus and Greece.

This monumental and pluralistic orthodox monastery is honored in Saint John Prodromos the Baptist and its founder, Saint Damianos of Kissavos (feast of February 14). Saint Damianos (16th century), hails from Karditsa, became a monk in the Monastery of Filotheos on Mount Athos and after a hermit in Kissavos (there is still the place of his eremitism near the monastery) and was eventually martyred by the Turks next to the bridge of Pinios river in Larissa in 1568 AD.

The monastery of Timios Prodromos is located three and a half kilometers west of the village of Anatoli in Agia Larissa at an altitude of 1100 meters in Kissavos (Ossa) and belongs to the Holy Metropolis of Demetriada. It was founded, as mentioned, by Saint Damianos in 1550 AD, who also organized the cenobitic monastic brotherhood that flourished until the Second World War. Afterwards the monastery was deserted.

Since 2000, the monastery has undertaken to restore an international group of nuns. The same nuns also operate the Holy Hesychast of Apostle Paul, located in Attica.

The nuns, who have also undertaken the restoration of the old building of the monastery, under the guidance of the old woman Theodekti, have successfully practiced organic farming and animal husbandry. In the monastery are sold ecological agricultural and livestock products, mainly dairy products and their derivatives.
