The monastery is situated in Metamorfosi, Chalkidiki, 2 kilometers north of the settlement, about 96 kilometers far from the city of Thessaloniki, after the region of Nea Moudania and at the forepart of Sithonia peninsula.

The Holy Hermitage of Timios Ioannis Prodromos (Honorable John the Forerunner) was founded in 1975 by Archimandrite Grigorios Papasotiriou. The first nominees nuns were the sisters Evgenia and Maria Horiatakis, Sofia Kenanidou from Metamorfosi of Chalkidiki and the sisters Tsaprazoglou from Vatopedi.

The place at which the Monastery was housed was the same at which was housed the old holy monastery of Dionisios. It is no coincidence that the monastery under construction was initially served by the chapel of Saint John the Forerunner (John the Baptist). Over time, the old buildings where the monks' cells are today were reconstructed.

The inauguration of the Catholic temple took place on 08/30/1981. It is a Byzantine style with dome (architectural style) temple dedicated to the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist. The construction of the temple was completed 10 years later with the donations of the believers. The monastery celebrates on 24 of June and 29 of August.

Today it has 50 nuns in its force, with abbess the nun Euphemia.

The monastery does not accept pilgrims on Wednesdays and Fridays as well as all the days of the Lent.
