The Holy Monastery of Ascetic of the village of Goumeros is a monument, probably of Byzantine origin, with incredible natural beauty. According to a legend an ascetic lived there. The inhabitants of the area of Goumeros and Oleni, after chasing him, thinking he was a wild boar, ended up in today's location of the monastery. But there they found only one icon of the Virgin Mary holding an infant. That's why the monastery was built at the point where two mountains join, inside a gorge. Several years ago the Monastery housed more than 50 monks while the last half century has been abandoned and there is no monastic life. Writing sources also mention that when the ascetic died, he was buried in the monastery. They also mention that the place was probably an ancient sanctuary and the cobbled paths existed long before the Monastery and that the area was closely linked to the ancient olive region in the same area as well as to the route of the athletes leading to ancient Olympia.

You can visit the Monastery by crossing the mountainous road of Patra-Tripoli that will lead you to the village of Goumero. The path passes through a rare oak forest and the road is rutty, but the result rewards you.

Since 2001 the space is considered a UNESCO Natural Monument.
