Gazi Evrenos died on November 17, 1417 and was buried in the mausoleum, which became a place of pilgrimage for the Balkan Muslims and later on it also became a mosque.

It is a one room building which is covered by a dome. Through the centuries the mausoleum has undergone various reconstructions and extensions. In the 17th century it became rectangular due to its expansion to the south while in the 19th century it became T-shaped as we know it nowadays.

The monument was almost destroyed during the prewar period but all damages were repaired when it was restored.
