This is a beautiful plateau with oak trees. According to mythology, it takes its name from centaur Pholus, who lived on the plateau and was friend of Hercules. The Centaurs were mythical beings who were half men (from the waist up) and half horses (lower body). The beautiful, dense forest that covers an area of 218,000 acres consists mainly of tall oak trees and perennial plane trees. A variety of animals has found shelter in the forest: foxes, jackals, badgers, squirrels, hares and otters.
