The Folklore Museum is located in Kontochori, just 1 km. from the center of Fira. It was founded by Emmanuel Lignos (lawyer, journalist and director of the newspaper "New Theraic"). The museum is housed in a building that dates back to1861 and looks like a traditional house.

In the museum you can also see:

  • a cave house
  • a canava
  • a cave that used to be a pumice mine
  • a traditional coffee house
  • workshops & equipment (carpenter, shoemaker etc.)

Furthermore, there is a big courtyard with flowers and sitting areas. In the area you will also find the chapel of St. Constantine and a gallery with works of known artists inspired by Santorini.
