The church of St. John the Baptist is located south of the city of Kos, in the graveyard. Its ground plan is rectangular externally and circular internally. Originally it was an early Christian baptistery of the 5th-6th century. It is perhaps the only early Christian baptistery that survived almost intact to this day and is used as a cemetery church. Paintings of the life of St. John the Baptist of the 12th-13th century were recently discovered on the interior walls.
