The capital of Skyros is Chora. It is built on a high rock under the Byzantine castle of St. George and offers panoramic views of the coastal villages of Magazia, Molos and Pouria. The village houses are of Cycladic architecture and are built amphitheatrically one next to another creating a wall that offered protection against pirates.

Chora is an ideal destination for accommodation and entertainment. Walking through the narrow streets of the village, you will find yourself in flower filled gardens, picturesque churches and will certainly encounter the warm smile of its inhabitants. If you reach the highest point of Chora, just under the Byzantine monastery of St. George, which is built on top of the rock by emperors Nikiforos Fokas and Ioannis Tsimiskis, you will enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the northeast coast of the island.
